Three Cowls
These three cowls can be worked with any needle size and gauge. Adjust needle size to obtain gauge which appears most flattering to you.
The yarn information is merely referential.

You can modify the pattern by adding stitches for a wider cowl. Decreasing stitches will result in a more narrow cowl. You can work your cowl longer than instructed. Remember to leave a sufficient yarn end for grafting the cowl ends together.
Cowl I
The multicolored cowl was knitted using 1 skein of Louhittaren Luola's Ilmatar, (295 yards/ 275 m per 1.7oz/50 g, 50% merino wool, 50 % silk).
The cowl was knitted with US #2,5/3 mm needles to a gauge of 18 sts and 40 rows per 4"/10cm (4½ sts and 10 rows per inch) in garter stitch. The finished cowl is approximately 8 1/4"/21 cm wide.
CO 75 sts. Knit 2 rows in garter stitch. Please note that the first stitch of every row should be knitted (instead of slipping) to obtain stretchy edges for your cowl.
Row 1 (decreasing round): Knit to last2 sts, k 2 tog.
Row 2 (increasing round): Knit last st, knit into front and back of st.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the cowl measures approximately 40"/100 cm long or as desired.
Graft or sew together the starting edge and the finishing edge.
Cowl II
The dark cowl was knitted using 1 skein of Louhittaren Luola's Tuulen tytär, (437 yards/ 400 m per 3.5oz/100 g, 100% merino wool).
The cowl was knitted with US4/3,5 mm needles to a gauge of 22 sts and 44 rows per 4"/10cm (5½ sts and 11 rows per inch) in garter stitch. The finished cowl is approximately 8"/20 cm wide.
CO 70 sts. Knit 2 rows in garter stitch. Please note that the first stitch of every row should be knitted (instead of slipping) to obtain stretchy edges for your cowl.
Row 1 (decreasing round): Knit to last2 sts, k 2 tog.
Row 2 (increasing round): Knit last st, knit into front and back of st.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the cowl measures approximately 40"/100 cm long or as desired.
Graft or sew together the starting edge and the finishing edge.
Cowl III
The stockinette cowl is knitted using1.5 oz/45 g Louhittaren Luola's yarn Tuulen tytär, (437 yards/ 400 m per 3.5 oz/50 g, 100% merino wool).
The cowl was knitted with US4/3,5 mm needles to a gauge of 24 sts and 34 rows per 4"/10 cm (6 sts and 8½ rows per inch) in stockinette stitch. The finished cowl is approximately 8"/20 cm wide.
CO 70 sts. Knit 1 row. Please note that the first stitch of every row should be knitted (instead of slipping)to obtain stretchy edges for your cowl.
Row 1 (wrong side): k3, p to last 3sts, k3.
Row 2 (right side): k4, make 1 (use any method for increasing), k to last 5 sts, k2tog, k3.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the cowl measures approximately 20"/50 cm or as desired.
Graft or sew together the starting edge and the finishing edge.
Finishing
Weave all the ends. Steam lightly.
