Sock Yarns
Our line of yarns has 4 different weight sock yarns. Our first yarn ever, Väinämöinen, is the base yarn for all Väinämöinen yarns. They differ only in ply-count, the high quality of the base fibers is always the same. Väinämöinen is a 4-ply fingering weight yarn, Väinämöinen Sport is a 6-ply sport weight yarn and the thickest yarn, Väinämöinen DK, is 8-ply, DK weight yarn.
All of our sock yarns have been tested and they all yield a US size 10 (EU size 40-41) sized pair of socks. All sock yarns are superwash treated, and can be washed in the machine, but colors may fade over time. These yarns will not felt.
VÄINÄMÖINEN
Our very first yarn ever, Väinämöinen, is an incredibly durable fingering weight sock yarn. It was named after a mythical character in the Finnish National Epic, Kalevala.
Socks made of Väinämöinen have been proven to have lasted for nearly a decade without any need for darning. The colors have faded, and perhaps the socks are slightly thinner than a new pair, but years of wearing them in shoes and washing them in the machine have not broken them.
Väinämöinen is truly a sock yarn, and it comes from Germany, which is known for high-quality sock yarns. But Väinämöinen is much, much more. It is soft enought for various accessories worn next to skin. It also suits well for sweaters, jackets and skirts among other things. Some may find it slightly coarse worn next to skin, but Väinämöinen will soften with wear.

75 % superwash wool, 25 % nylon.
Recommended needle size 2-2,5 mm (US #0 to #1½).
Recommended stitch gauge in stockinette stitch: 26-32s/10 cm (6,5 to 8 stitches per inch).
VÄINÄMÖINEN MINI
Väinämöinen Mini skeins are otherwise similar to the larger skeins, only the skein weight is 25 grams.
Miniature skeins are perfect for sampling and striping, but one miniature skein alone is enough for an adult-sized ankle sock.

VÄINÄMÖINEN SPORT
Our very first yarn ever, Väinämöinen, is a 4-ply fingering weight sock yarn. However, some knitters prefer slightly thicker sock yarns, and the need for a sport weight sock yarn created Väinämöinen Sport. Otherwise similar to Väinämöinen in durability and intensity of colors, it has 6 strands and feels slightly softer than regular Väinämöinen.
Väinämöinen Sport is, like Väinämöinen, spun in Germany. It is perfect for socks, but works especially well for sweaters and accessories, when sport-weight yarn is needed.

75 % superwash wool, 25 % nylon.
Recommended needle size 3-3,5 mm (US #2½ to #4).
Recommended stitch gauge in stockinette stitch: 20-24s/10 cm (5 to 6 stitches per inch).
VÄINÄMÖINEN DK
Väinämöinen is a 4-ply fingering weight sock yarn, and the foundation of our line of sock yarns. The sport weight, 6-ply version is known as Väinämöinen Sport, and the latest addition to our sock yarn collection is the 8-ply Väinämöinen DK. Just like Väinämöinen Sport, the DK weight version is otherwise similar to Väinämöinen in durability and intensity of colors, but it has 8 strands and feels slightly softer than regular Väinämöinen.
Väinämöinen DK is, like all Väinämöinen yarns, spun in Germany. It is perfect for socks, but knits up to beautiful cabled accessories and pullovers etc.

75 % superwash wool, 25 % nylon.
Recommended needle size 4-4,5 mm (US #6 to #7).

Our Merino Sock Yarn
PÄIVÄTÄR
Päivätär is our sparkling merino-nylon sock yarn blend. This 4-ply yarn is spun of superwash merino, a little bit of nylon and glittering stellina fiber. This beautiful yarn is a durable sock yarn which also yields sparkling accessories and garments.
Päivätär is spun of superwash merino and it will not felt. However, we recommend hand-washing for this yarn.

70 % superwash merino wool, 20 % nylon, 10 % stellina.
Recommended needle size 2,5-4 mm (US #1½ to #6).
