Our 100% Finnish Finnsheep Yarns
We are proud of our Finnish heritage - and our Finnish sheep! These yarns are spun entirely of Finnish Finnsheep fiber in Finland, and we work constantly with our local wool farms and spinneries to provide you with the finest of Finnsheep yarns.
Of the following yarns, only Louhitar II is woollen-spun, the others are worsted-spun. The range of yarns is extensive from cobweb weight Kytöläinen to DK weight Kaino.
The base yarn for all our Finnsheep wool yarns is either natural gray or natural white. Please choose the base you want in the drop-down menu. In dark colorways it is possible to mix both white and gray bases, but in light colorways the gray base yarn will yield a slightly muted and slightly darker hue.
If we have the same colorway in both bases in stock, both base yarn options have been photographed. See product photos for details. The base yarn color has been marked in each photo.
Please note that all of these yarns will felt in machine-wash - hand-washing is strongly recommended.
KAINO
Kaino is the newest addition to our Finnish Finnsheep line of yarns. It is a truly special yarn, produced entirely in Finland of Finnish Kainuu Grey wool and spun to a carded, DK weight, 3-ply yarn.
This smooth yarn is perfect for cabled projects. It yields incredibly warm accessories, such as mittens and hats, and yields a soft and warm fabric. With gauges of 16 to 22 stitches per 10 cm (4 to 5½ sts per inch) it yields quick knits which will keep you warm in any weather.
Hand-washing is strongly recommended.

KYTÖLÄINEN
Kytöläinen Finnsheep wool yarn is a new yarn introduced in Spring 2016. Being produced entirely in Finland, it is a single ply combed yarn especially suitable for delicate lace projects.
Hand-washing is strongly recommended.

KYTÖLÄINEN II
Kytöläinen II is the newest addition to the Lair line of yarns for the winter 2017 season. It all begins with Kytöläinen, a single-ply Finnish Finnsheep yarn. Unplied Kytöläinen becomes Kytöläinen II when two strands are plied together.
Kytöläinen II is soft, yet durable. It's the perfect choice for weaving and knitting. The fine sheen of the combed Finnsheep wool with an elegant drape yields luxurious shawls, accessories, knitted sweaters and jackets.
Hand-washing is strongly recommended.

LOUHITAR II
Louhitar II is our name-sake yarn and for a good reason: it is very close to our hearts. Its predecessor, Louhitar, was a carded 2-ply Finnsheep wool yarn, but sadly we couldn't get the base yarn anymore. Louhitar II can bear the name with pride, as it is, like the original Louhitar, a carded 2-ply yarn processed entirely in Finland of Finnish Finnsheep wool.
This fluffy yarn is perfect for stranded knitting. It yields incredibly warm accessories, such as mittens and hats, and gets surprisingly soft with wear, although it may feel a little coarse at first. With gauges of 18 to 24 stitches per 10 cm (4½ to 6 sts per inch) it yields quick knits which will keep you warm in any weather.
Hand-washing is strongly recommended.
