EIKU Väinämöinen Sport Yarns

Our very first yarn ever, Väinämöinen, is a 4-ply fingering weight sock yarn. However, some knitters prefer slightly thicker sock yarns, and the need for a sport weight sock yarn created Väinämöinen Sport. Otherwise similar to Väinämöinen in durability and intensity of colors, it has 6 strands and feels slightly softer than regular Väinämöinen.

Väinämöinen Sport is, like Väinämöinen, spun in Germany. It is perfect for socks, but works especially well for sweaters and accessories, when sport-weight yarn is needed.

One skein of Väinämöinen Sport will be enough for a pair of adult size socks (shoe size EU 40) with a medium to long cuff.

Väinämöinen sock yarns can be washed in the gentle cycle in the machine, but the colors may fade over time. These yarns will not felt.

Concerning Eikus

Eikus are special cases, results of trial and error, and only a limited number of skeins are available for ordering. Usually Eikus cannot be repeated exactly as photographed, but our dyeing wizards may attempt similar results. If you see an Eiku colorway which appeals to you, but the number of skeins in stock is not quite enough, let us know. We are happy to create custom colorways for you! 

Order the amount you need as a custom dye job, and let us know which colorway you have in mind. Custom batches are dyed in the same pot and are guaranteed to be of the same dyelot.n!

100 g / approx. 260 m (3 ½ oz / approx. 289 yds).

75 % superwash wool, 25 % nylon.

Recommended needle size 3-3,5 mm (US #2½ to 4).

Recommended stitch gauge in stockinette stitch: 20-24s/10 cm (5 to 6 stitches per inch).
